Friday:
1. Lecture on Lat ceph (good revision)
-Purpose: Quantitative analysis to describe and compare
-Method: Distance from x-ray source to mid saggital plane is 5 feet. Right side of patient towards film.
-There is magnifiaction (hence there are dual images)
-Patient's head in Frankfurt horizontal plane (parallel to the floor)
-Indicated: ant-post discrepancy (Class II, III), vertical discrepancy (AOB), impacted maxillary canine
- Landmarks:
a) Cranial base and cranium (sella, nasion, ba -ant part of foramen magnum,po -sup part of external auditory meatus, or -inf point of orbital margin)
b)maxillary (ANS- boundary of radioopaque, radiolucent, PNS, Point A, Is point)
c)Mandibular (Pog - most protruded, Me- most inferior point, Go - opp of me, B- alveolus, concavity, Li point)
-Plane:
a) ant cranial base (s->na)
b)Frankfurt Plane(p ->orbitale)
c)Maxillary (ANS -> PNS)
d) Occlusal (Molar, PM, noincisor)
e) Mandibular (menton -> gonion)
-there should be a COMMON meeting point in a well proportional face!
* You can still dothe tracing without remembering the anatomical landmarks since some of the 4th year students could do so, but better to revise and know your stuff!!
2. PBL session
-Similar to ours. They discuss by using facts obtained by journals. They have cases (OPG/clinical pictures) and they have to come up with a treatment plan that is evidence based
3. Clinical session
-better equiped (materials, instruments). have videos to watch before clinic session like CSU. Learnt nothing much.
:( Just helped being an asst and all that... charting...
4. Dental center unit
-saw a fiber post-core for #21 and temporary restoration. It had a cracked due to trauma. It was extruded so that the crack would be supragingival. RCT was done for the tooth previously.
-very common nowadays, patients to have crack teeth. I/O: illuminate, percuss, EPT, cold test, Put band around it to hold the tooth for it to have less pain ->crown
- scaling and polish (polishing paste and dry pumice)
- difference between clencers and bruxers
a) daytime vs nighttime
b)concious vs unconcious
c)sharp looking canine/pm vs flat teeth
d)deep bite vs left right
e) blow to stop clenching vs nightcguard
f)change guard only when perforates
g) lower guard? vs upper guard?
